CTAHE Educational Networking Night – Thursday, March 15, 2018

March 15, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Transformation of Caregiving – A Discussion on Vision and Collaboration

When Jewish Senior Services created its vision to develop and build the first household model of long term care in the State of CT, Perkins Eastman and KBE Construction were selected as the design and construction team to make this dream a reality.

The evening’s presentation will  be moderated by Andrew H. Banoff, President and CEO of JSS, in which he will describe the process of creating a design that incorporates all the building elements and traditions that have been cherished for generations by residents and their families, as well as state-of the art design for resident-centered care. The parallel process of preparing its staff for a major culture change in the way their facility would function and the transformation of caregiving will also be thoroughly discussed.

Learning Outcomes:

  • How a collaborative process can be accomplished to realize the best possible building within constraints such as strict time and/or budgetary limits.
  • How other CTAHE Members contemplating a similar transformation would start this transition in their communities and apply what Mr. Banoff has learned through JSS’s journey.

About Our Speaker:

Mr. Andrew H. Banoff, President and CEO of Jewish Senior Services

Andrew H. Banoff made the transition to Senior Living in 2003 after a progressively responsible career in hospital and health care administration in New York and Connecticut. As the President & CEO of Jewish Senior Services for the past 15 years, he has led the transformation of a nursing home into a fully integrated senior living continuum of care that allows seniors and their families a wide array of services to choose from. This “Journey to Home” has been a commitment to provide the highest possible quality of care and quality of life in the right setting to meet their needs. As such, Mr. Banoff led the development of The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Campus on Park Avenue, which is now home to the State of Connecticut’s first household model nursing home and assisted living community. The campus is also home to all of JSS’ home care and community-based services, as well as the Federation for Jewish Philanthropy, the J Fitness Center and Child Development Center, which makes a unique inter-generational campus that serves the community as a whole. Nearly 1,000 people are served each day on the campus – thanks to the over 900 dedicated professional caregivers of Jewish Senior Services. This continuum now includes The Jewish Home (skilled nursing and post-acute rehab), Les and Roz Goldstein Assisted Living Residences, Friedman Home Care Agency (Medicare-certified and non-Medical Home Care), Chaifetz Family Hospice, Adult Day Program, Outpatient Rehabilitation, physician practice services, the Center for Elder Abuse Prevention, the Institute on Aging, the Senior Choice at Home® (CCRC at Home) program, and Home Together® (Adult Family Living Homes).

Mr. Banoff previously served as the Executive Vice President of St. Vincent’s Health Services – a 391-bed acute care teaching hospital in Bridgeport, CT, and a member of Ascension Health – the nation’s largest non-profit healthcare system. He has also been the President & CEO of Connecticut Health Enterprises, a managed care contracting and physician practice management company, Vice President of Stamford Health System, and Vice President of New York Downtown Hospital. Andrew is a Fellow in the New York Academy of Medicine and the American College of Healthcare Executives, and is a member of the Board of Directors of several organizations, including – the Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS), and the Connecticut Alliance for Long Term Care (CALTC).
